A quick feeding opportunity

posted in Our Hives |

The temperature was said to be going above 50 today, so we seized the opportunity to give the girls a little something.  I managed to set up the feeders for Mary and Susan (sorry, Elizabeth, we’ll get you next time!), our strongest hives.  All three hives had built up pretty solid stores during the last nectar flow, but I wanted to “top them off”.

Stumble it!

Hi–I’m a new beekeeper (08 was our 2nd summer for the colony. We harvested nearly 100 lbs and I’m thrilled. BUT–here we are in Ipswich, it’s -5 degrees and my hive still isn’t wrapped. Do you think I should wait for it to warm up again, so that I don’t trap moisture under tar paper? Or get out there and wrap it up ASAP. yes, I know the best plan would have been to wrap it over thanksgiving, but it obviously didn’t happen!
